Nanjing’s Bamboo Eatery Touted In Canada

WHAT IT IS: Bamboo’s Eatery is straight up gorgeous; a sprawling, beautiful, three-storey stunner imagined and executed by local firm Minggu Design using both traditional (namesake) and modern materials.  Multi-level restaurants are rare in Vancouver and typically the preserve of big box chains, which is why we are salivating over the look of Bamboo’s and wishing it was over here instead of over there.

WHERE IT IS: The ancient city of Nanjing, capital of China’s eastern Jiangsu province, 300km up the Yangtze River from the coastal city of Shanghai.

WHERE WE WISH IT WAS: Pick an address on East Georgia St. between Main and Gore in Chinatown; the same block that is home to Fat Mao, Matchstick, Phnom Penh, Ramen Butcher and Mamie Taylor’s.

WHY WE WISH IT WAS THERE: Because it would be cool to have a mid-to-high end Chinese restaurant in the neighbourhood that employed vernacular aesthetic elements both old and new on three different levels.
