The marriage rate in China continues to drop as more and more young people choose to wait until getting hitched, reports Chinese news outlet China News.
According to the latest statistics released by Jiangsu Province’s Civil Affairs Bureau, Chinese people are now choosing to wait until their mid-30s before tying the knot. The average age of first-time marriage in the eastern province was 34.2 years in 2017 – 34.3 years for women and 34.1 for men. Five years ago, however, the average age was 29.6 years and in 2015 it was 32.4.
The number of marriage registrations in China has dropped for the third consecutive year.
