Tata Steel Sells Suzhou Service Center


TATA Steel UK, the former owners of the Scunthorpe works, has agreed to sell is speciality steels business based in South Yorkshire to rival company Liberty House Group for £100 million.

The deal will secure around 1,700 jobs in the region.

Last year Liberty, which has appointed former Scunthorpe works director Jon Bolton as one of its executives, bought two plate mills in Scotland from Tata.

Today’s sale agreement covers several South Yorkshire-based assets including the electric arc steelworks and bar mill at Rotherham, the steel purifying facility in Stocksbridge and a mill in Brinsworth as well as service centres in Bolton and Wednesbury, UK, and in Suzhou and Xi’an, China.
